Territorial Gavel Dublin Core Title Territorial Gavel Description Red brown wood gavel with gold copper metal shield on top and bands on each end. Etching in metal bands of several names. Gold plaque on head reads "to Albion B. Emery, Speaker, 31st Leg. of Utah territory." March 8, 1894. This gavel was gifted to Representative Albion B. Emery (Summit County) by his colleagues when he was the Speaker of Utah's 31st and last Territorial Legislative Assembly. Emery played a key role in achieving statehood, creating alliances among representatives across religious and political boundaries before his death in 1894.
