Biographical Text

George Lowe Nye grew up in Iowa before attending Urbana College in Ohio, where he completed a degree in science in 1889. The same year he entered law school at the University of Michigan. Upon graduating in 1891, he began practicing in Iowa. Wanting to challenge himself, Nye moved to Utah in January 1892 and resumed practice at once. Nye had no previous experience in public office until his election as representative. In 1902 and 1903, he was appointed attorney of Salt Lake City. Nye moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1905, where he developed an extensive practice. At twenty-six years old, Nye was the youngest legislator in the first session.
