Biographical Text

William Perry Nebeker was a pioneer of 1847, driving the family’s yoke of oxen across the plains at age eleven. Although his educational opportunities were limited, Nebeker taught himself French and German, and civil engineering and was a “well read man in current affairs and history” (Drumm 1896, 82). In 1860, Nebeker served on the territorial legislature. He held various public offices in Salt Lake County and was on the Utah Agricultural College Board of Trustees from 1894 to 1896. Nebeker served alongside his younger brother, Aquila, during the first session of the state legislature.
