Biographical Text

Peter Morgan Maughan lived and worked the majority of his life in Cache County. Due to farming, his education was limited. However, he served in many important positions of trust in Wellsville and Cache County, including a city councilman, city assessor, and county justice of the peace. Farming was his primary career until 1894, when the Wellsville Co-Op Mercantile Company hired him to handle an extensive grain business in addition to livestock and farming implements. This line of work brought him in touch with farmers and businessmen. As a representative, Maughan served on several committees, including the Judiciary, Counties, Private Corporations, Capital and Capitol Grounds, and Printing. Maughan died from a heart attack in 1941.
