Biographical Text

Marinus Larsen emigrated to Utah in 1862, settling in Spanish Fork, where he lived the rest of his life. He served four terms on the Spanish Fork City Council and two terms as mayor. When Larsen left office as mayor in January 1896, his success was marked by the city being completely debt free. A newspaper account describes how Larsen, then eighty-five years old, walked from Spanish Fork to Provo “just to see if he could do it again.” Larsen died about a month later from gastrointestinal disease.
