Biographical Text

Charles Morrill dutifully served as the sheriff of Piute County for nine years. He later held other public offices, including eight years as county treasurer, member of the school board, and town president. As a representative, Morrill “was one of the best liked members on the Republican side. Thoroughly well informed, he was not addicted to the “talk” habit and so was able to act intelligently on all measures without boring his colleagues” (Drumm 1896, 71). However, as chairman of the Counties Committee, he oversaw the most contended and controversial bill passed by the legislature on the topic of county governments. Morrill died in 1927 following a period of ill health.
