Biographical Text

William Walker Wilson immigrated to Utah in 1871. He worked as a hotel boy before beginning an apprenticeship with a tinsmith in 1873. A few years later, Wilson moved to Sandy, where he engaged in farming and tinsmithing. Throughout his life, Wilson held numerous public offices in Sandy, which he helped incorporate as a city. Such offices included justice of the peace, city justice, and mayor. As a child, Wilson left school to help support his family. As such, he became a significant supporter of schools and education, serving as a school board trustee. During his time as a representative, Wilson played a prominent part in passing the eight-hour law for miners and smelter men. Wilson died in 1931 from pneumonia.
