  • Description is exactly "Small medal or badge made of silver metal. Top decorative bar reads "Utah admitted Jan 6., 1896." Two metal loops attached to the top bar suspend a circular medallion below that features the Utah seal of an eagle perched above two flags, a skep beehive framed by sego lillies, and the dates "1847" and "1896." Around the seal are the words "the great seal of the state of utah." On reverse of medal, on both the top bar and the circular medallion, is the maker's seal "E.J. Swaner, Maker, S.L. City."

    This medal commemorating Utah’s admission into the U.S. on January 6, 1896, was created by a local Salt Lake jeweler’s shop on Main Street called E.J. Swaner. It was an early acquisition to the Historical Society, coming into the collection sometime before the 1970s."
